Nanay is the Tagalog word for mother or mom. It is used in our context to describe those that act as loving, older, maternal figures to everyone in our ministry. We often shorten it to "Nay" and it is shouted toward a person to get their attention as a term of endearment. This photo was taken by Sean Ambrose who spent time with a family in our ministry. He went to the market with them, learned to cook local dishes, and slept in their home on a bamboo bench. This woman has served faithfully, cooking for our events or for our get togethers and celebrations. She has attended spiritual retreats, graduations, and has been a part of our Bible studies. I used this picture for our 50@50 Campaign to put a face on the impact of the donations generous supporters have given. When we say that a monetary gift can transform lives, it goes beyond feeding the poor or teaching uneducated families how to use computers. Transformation starts with the heart, and the only way that can happen is by introducing people to Jesus Christ.
